Hampton Roads Wildlife Removal Tip of the Month: House Mouse Trapping

It's a scene that no one wants to see. You wake up in the middle of the night, go to your kitchen to get a glass of water, turn on the light, and find yourself shrieking in horror as a bunch of little Hampton Roads mice scurry away into the walls or behind your counters. Soon your restful night turns into a nightmare as you worry that the few you have seen could actually be 20 or 30.

The reality is that this could be a possibility. Because mice are community based animals, you may find that one can actually mean you have 10, 20 or even littler scurrying vermin living in your Hampton Roads home. No one wants to see this. Mice are not only destructive little creatures, but they are also quite dangerous. Mice carry lots of different diseases and parasites that are hazardous to your pets, your family, and to yourself. In addition, they can cause your house to become a pit of disease that could be very hard to get rid of.

If you have Hampton Roads mice trouble, you should be aware that there are some things you can do to get rid of your problem that are not too intrusive or troublesome to help you eliminate these Virginia critters. You will surely want to get rid of them, so here are a few ideas you can use to trap and/or kill these creatures. The first of these is the common mouse trap that we are all so familiar with. You place a piece of cheese or some other tasty morsel on the trap, the mouse grabs it, and BAM!!! The bar comes down hard on the mouse and you have instantaneous dead Virginia mouse. This is a very effective tool to use if you only have a couple of dozen mice at most. If there are many more you simply can't put 100 traps around your home, and if you are only killing one or two a day you will find that their birthrate far exceeds your trap killing rate. This cannot work.

If you are going with the traditional mouse trap be sure that you place this in an area where only the mice can get to it. The last thing you want is for your dog to find its snout locked to the trap or, even worse, your child gets his or her hand caught in the trap. This can be very painful, so be careful where you set up the trap. If you want to get more than one mouse at a time, there are traps that come with 6 or 8 traps in one circular box. A morsel is placed in the center that allows the Hampton Roads mice to smell the treat, but they cannot actually get to it. When they enter the trap the bar closes down on them and kills the mouse. Because there are six or eight in one trap it can kill more than one Virginia mouse at a time.
